Corr Cronin Lands a Victory in Pro Bono Matter Allowing Access to Health Care for Immigrant and Refugee Children and Youth

Big victory this month obtaining intensive mental health care services for children, youth, and their families. Corr Cronin LLP attorney Blake Marks-Dias, along with Disability Rights Washington, took legal action against a policy that prevented undocumented immigrant and refugee children and youth from having an equal opportunity to receive Wraparound with Intensive Services (“WISe”) benefits. After filing a Petition for Judicial Review in Thurston County Superior Court, the legal team reached a Settlement Agreement with the Washington Health Care Authority to change this policy.

Attorney Blake Marks-Dias says: “I believe that health care is a human right. Significant barriers remain, especially for the most vulnerable members of our society, including immigrant and refugee children and youth. Access to the WISe program not only helps these individuals and their families, it also improves our community generally.”

Disability Rights Washington, Northwest Health Law Advocates, and Corr Cronin LLP generously donated legal representation and appreciate the Health Care Authority and Washington State Attorney General’s Office for working collaboratively to take this important step forward.
