Still a Two Newspaper Town! Tuesday, April 17, 2007 Corr Cronin Michelson Baumgardner & Preece LLP is pleased to report that Seattle will remain a two newspaper town through at least 2016. In April 2003, the Seattle Times, one of Seattle's two daily newspapers, threatened to terminate its Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (P-I), Seattle's other daily newspaper. If the Times was successful, the P-I would have gone out of business.
After four years of litigation, on the eve of a month-long arbitration trial, the Seattle Times agreed not to terminate the JOA with the P-I until at least 2016. The Times also agreed to pay the P-I $24 million. Corr Cronin Michelson Baumgardner & Preece represented the P-I, which is owned by the Hearst Corporation.
