Representative Cases

  • Hearst Communications, Inc. v. The Seattle Times Company – Corr Cronin represents The Hearst Corporation in contract dispute arising out of the Joint Operating Agreement between The Seattle Post-Intelligencer and The Seattle Times under which Seattle’s two daily newspapers have been published for the past 20 years. The continued existence of The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is at stake.
  • Johnson, et al. v. Bull’s Eye Shooter Supply, et al. – In a case drawing national attention, families of the victims of the D.C. snipers sued the snipers, the gun shop from which the rifle they used was allegedly purchased, and Bushmaster Firearms, the manufacturer of the gun allegedly used in the attacks. Plaintiffs were represented by nationally-known local attorneys and by The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Legal Action Project from Washington, D.C. Corr Cronin represented Bushmaster Firearms and successfully settled the case for less than defense costs.
  • Chapman v. Alaska Airlines – Nationally known plaintiffs’ counsel brought a class action involving 3.9 million plaintiffs and claims dating back to 1996. Plaintiff, a frequent flyer, claimed that Alaska Airlines had breached its contract and acted unfairly when it “retroactively devalued” accrued mileage by increasing award levels for free travel in its frequent flyer plan. The entire case was dismissed with prejudice, and plaintiff subsequently withdrew her appeal.
  • Braam, et al. v. State of Washington – 13 individual plaintiffs represented a statewide class involving more than 3,000 foster children allegedly “shuttled” among foster homes and denied mental health care. The plaintiffs sought damages in excess of $9 million as well as statewide injunctive relief. Corr Cronin was hired by the Washington State’s Attorney General’s office after a competitive interview process and acted as co-counsel in a seven-week class-action jury trial. The trial court injunction was reversed by the State Supreme Court in a decision reported at Braam v. State, 150 Wn.2d 689 (2003), and the parties recently reached a favorable settlement.
  • Plunkett v. Ed Glenn Distributor, Inc. – Corr Cronin represented ExxonMobil in class action litigation arising out of distributor’s alleged misbranding of gasoline products. Plaintiffs’ fraud, consumer protection act, criminal profiteering, and breach of warranty claims exceeded $12 million. All of plaintiffs’ claims against ExxonMobil were dismissed on summary judgment.
