Practice / Experience

Mr. Raskin is a partner in the firm.  His practice focuses on business litigation and dispute resolution.  Mr. Raskin has represented a diverse clientele, ranging from individual entrepreneurs in Seattle to some of the region’s and nation’s largest companies.  He has successfully litigated contract, securities, real estate, employment, intellectual property, business tort and other business litigation claims in federal and state courts.  He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in commercial litigation and has defended attorneys, financial professionals and others against negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and professional liability claims.  Washington Law & Politics selected Mr. Raskin as a “Super Lawyer” for 2004 and 2005, and a “Rising Star” for 2002 and 2003.

Representative Cases

  • Towslee, et. al v. TRC Companies, Inc – Defended directors and officers of engineering services company against accounting-related breach of fiduciary duty and Washington State Securities Act claims arising from the sale of the company to a public corporation and prosecuted claims for failure to pay notes and earnout due from sale.
  • In Re River Park Square Project Bond Litigation – Defended bond counsel and issuer’s counsel in securities litigation arising from the issuance of tax-exempt bonds.
  • Russell Investment Group v. Baggenstos – Prosecuted claims to enjoin alleged misappropriation of trade secrets and breach of fiduciary duty by former employee.
  • Nucor Steel Seattle v. Seattle City Light –  Represented City in complex contractual dispute over true-up provision in power contract.
  • Pendleton-Brown v. Mervyn’s – Defended department store in connection with discrimination, harassment and other tort claims.
  • Pendleton Woolen Mills v. Employer Ins. Of Wausau – Prosecuted claims by large manufacturer against insurance companies for indemnity of costs incurred for environmental cleanup.
  • In Re The Certificate of Need Issued to Total Renal Care – Represented large health care provider in administrative challenge to adverse Department of Health decision.
  • Meyer v. Ayres – Prosecuted multimillion dollar breach of fiduciary duty, negligent misrepresentation and other claims by limited partner against general partner that allegedly defrauded her out of valuable commercial property. 
  • Hearst Communications, Inc. v. Seattle Times Company  – Represented Hearst in suit to block Seattle Times' attempt to terminate a twenty year old joint operating agreement between the Seattle Post Intelligencer and Seattle Times.
  • Walling v. Centex Homes – Represented large home builder in connection with claims under real estate contract.
  • Dorland v. Bridges, et al. – Prosecuted copyright, commercial and tort claims on behalf of owner of rare photographs of the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull.
  • Marshall v. Globe-1, et al. – Defended former CEO of technology company in connection with state securities fraud and negligent misrepresentation claims arising from financing and merger.
  • Manson v. The Administrative Committee of the Services Group of America, Inc. Profit Sharing and Retirement Savings Plan, et al. – Defended financial services company against class action breach of fiduciary duty claims asserted by plan participants against trustee and others.
  • Khan Air v. United States Aircraft Insurance Group, et al. – Defended aviation insurance broker against negligent misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty and bad faith claims arising out of the procurement of liability insurance in connection with a commercial aircraft sale.
  • Port of Walla Walla v. Premier Roofing, et al. – Defended warranty claims asserted against a national manufacturer of building materials in construction litigation involving a storm-damaged roof on a commercial building.
  • State of Washington v. American Tobacco Company, et al. and Northwest Laborers-Employers Health & Security Trust v. Philip Morris Inc., et al. –  Defended tobacco company in actions brought by State of Washington and class of health & welfare trust funds seeking recovery of alleged smoking-related health care expenditures under Consumer Protection Act, antitrust and common law theories.
